Our beloved father, brother, uncle and grandfather, George “Pete” Plath, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2017.  George was born in Toledo, Ohio on November 21, 1924 to the late Harry and Emily Plath.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Plath.
George was a graduate of Libbey High School and upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in World War II.  George was very proud on his county and he was grateful to be able to go on the “Honor Flight” and see the World War II Memorial.  After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned home and found employment at Champion Spark Plug, retiring after 35 ½ years.  George was active in the Catholic War Veterans Logsdon-Walla Post 639 and American Legion Przybylski Post 642 where he served as past Commander and various other offices.  He was also a consistent volunteer planting flags in various cemeteries throughout the years to honor veterans and he volunteered to work the Salvation Army kettles during the holidays.
He was a good man with a good heart who was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends, family and even strangers.  Up until the last year, George enjoyed walking in the metro parks, cooking, visiting his buddies at the legion post, bus trips to the Detroit casino’s, and spending time with his family and friends.
George will be greatly missed by those who survive him, including by not limited to, his brother Ralph (Marge) Plath, sister Reets Kwapich, daughters, Sherry (John) Hack and Sandra (David) Kneisley, also son Walter “Tony” (Patty) Plath.  His grandchildren, Chris (Ron) Acosta, Ronald Roberts, Derek (Becky) Roberts, Jim Kepler (fiancée Nancee), and Michael Plath (fiancée Jennifer) and great grandchildren, Hailey and Anthony Acosta, Logan Kepler, Brittany and Anthony Roberts and Adrian Roberts. Also surviving are many step grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may visit at the W.K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy., on Thursday from 4-8:00p.m. where C.W.V. Post 639 services will be held at 7:00p.m. followed by A.L. Post 642 services at 7:15p.m.   The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 10:30a.m. at St. Hyacinth Church (717 Parkside Blvd.).  Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery with military honors by the Lucas County Veterans Burial Corp.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.  The family would like to express a special thank you to Tracy his former nurse; Amy, Frannie and Tamara for their compassionate care at St. Clare Commons; and to the Beczynski family and Norma for their years of continuous friendship.
