Bernard J. “Bernie” Haas, 86, passed away on Thursday June 21, 2012 in Chattanooga, TN. Formerly of Toledo, Bernie worked 29 years as a driver and in the warehouse for A&P and then at Motor Rebuilders and Parts until his retirement. One of nine children, he became the family patriarch after the early death of his father.
    He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart. Bernie was a member over 50 years of the Logsdon Walla Post Catholic War Veterans and the American Legion.
    He was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Helen (Smith) Haas and his wife of 62 years Rita and son-in-law Leo “Butch” Emahiser. Bernie is survived by his daughter Sharon Emahiser; granddaughter Jenna Emahiser Smith; grandson Jason Emahiser; great grandchildren Kaiden Smith and Jacob Emahiser; brothers Paul (Alvina), Gilbert (Helga), Lester (Betty) and Tommy (Kitty) Haas; sisters Mary Tolson, Patricia Lemle, Catherine and Thelma (Ron) Lemon and numerous nieces and nephews..
    Services were held Wednesday at 12 Noon in the W. K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy. Interment, with Military Honors provided by the Lucas Co. Burial Corp, followed at Resurrection Cemetery.
