Shirley V. (Held) Christofel, died on July 1, 2012 at Swan Creek Skilled Care Facility, Toledo, Ohio, where she lived for the past three years.  The daughter of Charles and Anna (Stehle) Held, she was born January 8, 1922 in Sandusky, Ohio.  She was married to Donald Christofel on September 27, 1941.  Shirley worked as a legal secretary, employed by the law firm of Hoeffel, Funkhouser and Short in Napoleon, Ohio.  She also worked as secretary & treasurer at her husband’s business, D.L. Christofel Inc.
Shirley moved to Sylvania, Ohio in 1986, following the death of her husband.  She was then employed by the law firm of Bischoff, Kenny and Drescher until her retirement.  Shirley loved music and crossword puzzles (both talents inherited by her son Dan).  Her biggest joy in life was helping others. She was a talented baker who always provided cookies for friends, neighbors, co-workers and the delivery person. Shirley’s concern following her stroke was that she must recover so she could continue to do for others.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald; brothers, Arthur, George, Robert, Charles and Leonard; and sisters, Leona, Edna and Alice.  She is survived by her children, Susan Christofel-Meyer (Gary), Daniel (Beverly) Christofel; daughter-in-law, Beth Christofel; grandchildren, Amy Meyer (Pete Rios), Ryan (Jenni Sujkowski) Meyer, Rachel Christofel, Rebecca Christofel and Franklin Arthur; great granddaughter, Ashley Watson; special nieces, Lynette, Lynda and Leslie; the Sujkowski and Wenz families who lovingly called her Grandma “C”.
Family and friends may visit at the W.K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy., on Thursday, from 2-8p.m.  Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 6, 2012 at Olivet Lutheran Church, 5840 Monroe St., Sylvania, Ohio at 11:00a.m., where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00a.m.  The family wishes to thank the health care providers, as well as, the support staff of Swan Creek Skilled Care Facility for the professional, kind and loving care of Shirley throughout her stay.  Those wishing to make a memorial contribution may contribute to the Swan Creek Employee Appreciation Fund or the Charity of the donor’s choice.

Having recently been through a loss we know how difficult it is. You have done all you can for here, be assured of that . We are still on vacation, now in Moncton on way home so can't attend or visit. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

I worked with your mom for 8 yrs. at the law office and I do remember what a good baker and cook she was. We always looked forward to whatever she brought in for us!
I know that Loretta Schroeder and Joyce Maassel are still around too.
Your mom called me a couple of times over the years - it was good to catch up with her.
May God be with your families.

Susan & Daniel,
Please accept our sincere condolences on the passing of your Mother. My Mother, Verneda McGannon, lived at Versailles and was a good friend of your Mother & your aunt Jan. They used to travel together & have great times.
Also, our daughter, Melissa McGannon(now Peterson), worked with your Mother for Mr. Bischoff while she was at UT.
We will keep you in our prayers.

Susan and Dan, I am very sorry to read tonight of your loss. Your mom was always friendly and doing for others and exhibited great energy at Dad's law office. I enjoyed listening to whatever adventures she had to share. You have my sympathy. Ande
