Lucy Ann Gearhart died peacefully in her daughter’s home on October 18, 2012, surrounded by her loving and devoted family. Lucy Ann was born on March 7, 1929 in Toledo to Leocadia “Lee” (Paluszak) and Frank Czajka. She graduated from St. Hyacinth Elementary School and Central Catholic High School. As a young lady, Lucy worked at St. Vincent’s School of Nursing doing office work and then moved on to work at Tiedtke’s. Most of her adult life she was a devoted and dedicated employee at Middlesex Cleaners, National Cleaners and for thirty years at Adams Cleaners, downtown.
In 1953 Lucy married Robert Henneman. They had a beautiful daughter, Judy, who is loving and compassionate with and to everyone and especially with and to her mother in her dying. Robert died in 1969. In 1974 Lucy married Francis (Ronald) Gearhart and he died in 1993. In Lucy’s last few years, she lived with her daughter, son-in-law Michael and granddaughter Stephanie, who embraced her with the commitment and lasting love she had always given them. As Parkinson’s disease declined and weakened her, she was placed in Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg and eventually came back home to be with her daughter and was encircled with love by her dear family. Her dear aunts, Sisters Aloise and Geraldine Paluszak, Sisters of St. Francis from Sylvania, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends visited her frequently.
Lucy enjoyed crocheting and doing craft work in her spare time. Everything she made she gave away as prizes to her favorite organizations especially the Holy Family of St. Hyacinth Parish and the St. Francis Guild of Sylvania, of which she was a life member. She was also a member of the St. Hyacinth Seniors. Lucy loved to play bingo and go to the casinos, especially to the yearly event to Kewaiden. Lucy looked forward to the days she bowled, enjoyed going to various parish festivals, loved just being with people and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan.
Lucy Ann was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Robert and Francis and her sister Donna Wasielewski of Sun City, AZ. She leaves behind a loving and grateful family, Judy and Michael Prysiazny, grandson David and granddaughter Stephanie Prysiazny.
Family and friends may visit Sunday from 2-8 p.m. at the W K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy where a Vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will begin with prayers at the mortuary on Monday at 9:45 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Maumee. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
The family is grateful to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd., Perrysburg for their wonderful care. Memorials may be made to them in lieu of flowers.
