Leo Uliczny, 95, formerly of Charmaine Dr., Toledo, passed away on November 1, 2012 at Masternik Memorial in New Middletown, OH.  He was the son of Stephan and Sophia (Nowakowski) Uliczny, born on February 19, 1917. Leo was also affectionately known as ‘Tarzan’ in his former neighborhood of King St.
    Leo proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart.  He served as Sgt. with the 2nd Chemical Mortar Battalion as forward recon observer and switchboard operator.  
    He served in 3rd Army campaigns under Gen. Patton and 5th Army with Gen. Mark Clark covering Sicily, Italy, France, Germany and Austria with 510 out of 610 days on the front combat lines.  He was part of the relief effort at the Battle of the Bulge and hot spots at Salerno Beach, as well as, Cassino, Italy.
    In Rome, he was blessed by Pope Pius XII at the Vatican and thanked the Lord for bringing him home. Leo was a life member of the V.F.W. Frankowski Post 5530.  He retired from Champion Spark Plug where he worked for 27 years as a set-up man of dept. 5-PTA.  
    He was a member of Champions Retiree Chapter, a Charter member of Champions Artist Club, a 46 year member of Local 12, and a former steward. He was also a member of St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church and their Holy Name Society.
    Leo was preceded in death by his first wife, Regina (Drella); second wife, Virginia (Zalewski); sisters, Marie Uliczny, Sally Bialorucki and Alice Uliczny; brother, Stanley Uliczny; great grandson, Derek; great granddaughter, Elaina; and special friend and companion, Joan Krzyzanowski.
    He will be dearly missed by his children, David (Carolyn), Thomas (Barb), Robert (Christi), Richard (Brenda) and Barbara (Frank) Niro; 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; brother, Joseph Uliczny; and special friends, Irene Mayberry & Virginia Mielczarek.
    Family and friends may visit at the W.K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy., on Sunday from 4-7pm where Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 5, 2012 at 10:30 in the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.  
    The family would like to express a special thank you to Sateri Assisted Living, where Leo resided the past 3 years, for their care and support. Please consider ‘Honor Flight’ for memorial tributes.

Mom Barb, We are so sorry for you loss. Even though we did not know your father personally, we can only imagine what a beautiful, strong man Mr. Uliczny was. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers every day!
