Joseph E. Spoerke
The Green Bay Packers, The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Indians have lost one of their biggest fans...and today we have lost a beloved husband, brother, uncle and friend.
Joseph E. “Joe” Spoerke, 64, of Toledo passed away March 5, 2014 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio (Toledo) after a brief illness. Born in Menominee, MI and raised in Rossford, OH, he was the son of Ernest and Kathryn Spoerke. Joe was the quintessential sports enthusiast! He enjoyed annual trips to his beloved Lambeau Field to cheer on the Packers and many, many trips to Columbus to attend OSU football and basketball games and he always dressed for the occasion!
Joe’s career spanned nearly 40 years as a Senior Systems Analyst with such firms as Owens Illinois, Sheller Globe, United Technologies-Lear Corp. and IAC. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. Besides sports, Joe had a great culinary passion. His specialties included BBQ chicken, ribs and “hot chili”. He held quite a collection of unique hot sauces procured from trips to Jamaica where he traveled annually with his wife, Sandy for nearly 30 years.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Ernie and Kayt; father-in-law John Fall and infant sister Mary Kathryn. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Sandy (Fall); sisters Mary (John) Strzelecki, Dr. Sue (Mike) Brodbeck and Peg Spoerke; mother-in-law Marge Fall; sister-in-law Shari (Larry) Ohlman and dear friends, the Artz family and the Hines family. He was “Uncle Joe” to Angela, Heather, Patty, Amanda, Nate, Heather, Lawrence, Karrie and Lindsey.
Family and friends may visit Sunday March 9, 2014 from 2-8 p.m. at the W. K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy. where Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Monday March 10, 2014 at 10 a.m. in the mortuary, Fr. Mark Herzog, officiating. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
Please consider tributes to Hospice of Northwest Ohio (Toledo) where Joe received extraordinary love and care especially from angels Cindy, Diana and Kathy. You guys are awesome! Thank You.
       IRIE JOE!

Joe was a great friend. He and I spent 11 years working together and I learned quite a bit from him. He was very proud of his work and was very thorough and was particular in what he did.
He was a fellow Buckeye fan and Joe and I went to see the football Buckeyes play in Columbus many times.
Joe, rest in peace. I will miss you but your great memories that you gave me will be with me for the rest of my life.

Joe was one of those people that brightened your day just by being there. We miss you Joe. Rest in peace dear friend.

I remember Joe mostly for his Friday night outings, from OI DPC, to get pizza or Packo's Hungarian dogs. His outings would take a couple of hours longer to bend his elbow a few times. Joe was always back by 3 am.

Joe always had a smile on his face and always greeted you with a "hello" or asked how everything was. At work, he was always willing to help with something and you knew you could always count on him. A true gentleman that will be missed by many.

I just learned the sad news. My condolences to Joe's family. I have many fond memories of working with Joe at UTA. Joe loved his work, but loved the folks he worked with even more. Always a smile on his face, and always willing to help.
I can still remember the grin on his face as he introduced his latest Jamaican hot sauce at our potluck Christmas lunches!

We have lost a great friend. Rest in peace, my friend.
