Charles J. Justen passed away peacefully on April 19, 2016.  Charles was born on November 20, 1920 to Wanda (Polcyn) and Charles Justen Sr. in Toledo, Ohio.  After graduating from Macomber Vocational School, Charles went to work for the State of Ohio Transportation Division.  He married Leona (Szelangowski) on March 7, 1942 and they enjoyed 72 years together until her passing in 2015.  
Charles PROUDLY served his country during World War II in the Army Air Force, 324th Squadron, 91st Bomb Group, 8th Air Force. He flew 29 missions from Basingbourne, England and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with three Bronze Oakleaf Clusters. Charles was a long time member and past commander of Catholic War Vets Jude Thaddeus Post 1675.
Upon retirement, ‘Charlie’ became the consummate volunteer as he spent many hours at St. Vincent DePaul Church and Bay View Golf Course.  He enjoyed creating woodworking projects for his family and friends and continued his life-long interest in gardening.  
He is survived by daughters Linda (Gary) Ludwig, Susan (Douglas) Smith, Christine (John) Wieck; son-in-law Steven Forrester; grandchildren, Karen, Gregory (Heather), Jeff (Joanna), Andy (Susan), Jay (Paula), Ryan, Ethan, (Diane), Marlee (Paul), Casey (Laura), Ellyn (Jakob), Jacob (Jennifer), Matthew; great grandchildren, Libby, Kate, Paige, Madelyn, Griffin, Cash, Ivy, Carter, Delaney, Maxwell, Noah, Rosalie and Leona; brother Jerry (Grace); sisters Teresa Deak and Eleanore Hiller; sister-in-law Ellie Justen.  In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Leona; daughter, Julie Forrester; great grandson, Nolan, sisters, Helen Justen, Catherine LaPlante and Rita Cameron; brothers, Frank, James and Joe; brothers-in-law, Ray LaPlante, Don Cameron, Joe Deak and Verl Hiller, and sisters-in-law, Kathy and Vada Justen.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate a Memorial Mass, officiated by Reverend Robert Reinhart, on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Catholic Church, 4201 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo, OH at 11:00 a.m. with visitation in the narthex of church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Calvary Cemetery.
A special thank you of heartfelt gratitude is extended to Chuck’s amazing neighbors whose kindness and concern was greatly appreciated.  The family would also like to thank the staff at Perrysburg Commons for their care during Charles’ short stay, Heartland Hospice and St. Clare Commons.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Mr Justen ( Chuck ). He was a very good friend of my mom & dad Mary Lou & Ken Berkel. My heartfelt sympathies are with you. The CWV # 1675 color guard is representing in Heaven I'm sure !! Again my sympathy.
