Joan Martha Schmenk was born in Toledo and passed away at UTMC on June 17, 2016 at the age of 83. Joan was preceded in death by her husband Keith Joseph Schmenk, parents Pearl and Alex Dymarkowski and granddaughter Amanda Messer. Joan was home schooled and worked from 1954-1964 at Scholz Homes before becoming a stay at home mom. She scheduled servers at Our Lady of perpetual Help church for many years.
Joan is survived by her sons Tim, David (Deb), Mike (Linda), Dennis (Cris) and daughter Debbie (Ernest) Messer; grandchildren Amy, Tim, Rayann, Casey, Scott, Stacey, Nicole, Brian, Blake, Alec, Derek, Andrew, Connor, Olivia and Ernie; great grandchildren Lexi, Violet, Hunter, Parker, Mason, Kierstyn, Sadie, Railynn, Sean, Lily, Carter and Brantley.
Joan enjoyed being around her family even though we drove her crazy. She enjoyed proclaiming her faith by going to church and took comfort in saying the Rosary. Mom was always there to lend a helping hand whenever someone needed it. Mom also enjoyed going to the casino, playing euchre and bunco. Mom was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and loved going to seniors at St. Hyacinths. Most of all she loved her yard, weeding, trimming and planting flowers. She will be deeply missed.
Family and friends may visit Wednesday June 22, 2016 from 2-8 p.m. at the W. K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy. where the Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Those attending should meet directly at the church.  Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the church or the Army Emergency Relief.

My deepest sympathy to the family! Heaven has gained another Angel! Your Mom was an amazing woman who loved the Lord and her family! I was blessed to be her daughter in law! She was always there for me, Amy and Lexi!! She always had a smile on her face and love in her heart! She would get so excited when we would come up to visit! Even though I have not truly been a member of the family for years now she always made me feel like I still was! I always concidered her my mother in law! I am going to miss her words of wisdom, her beautiful smile and the love she showed me over the years!! I am praying for you all that the Lord will hold each one of you and bring you comfort and peace. Love you all!
