Music by The Piano Brothers

On Christmas Sunday 2016 at the age of 88, our mom left this earth to help Mary in Heaven with her new Baby. Mom died at Wood County Hospital, Bowling Green with family at her side. She had a beautiful Christmas day at the Bowling Green Care Center chatting with her grand and great-grandchildren, seeing pictures of Toledo Christmas lights and finally drinking a Coke along with her chips. It was a blessed day followed by an unexpected, peaceful and quick death.
Dee retired from Prescription Supply seven years ago, which gave her much time for her favorite activity--buying and reading books. Her love of reading began as a child at the Mott library where she spent endless hours. She enjoyed working puzzles and telling stories of her grandchildren. Dee loved going to the casino with her friend Rosie. Dee was a loving wife, mom and grandma. She was a member of the Logsdon Walla Post 639 CWV for 68 years, and a past member of St. Jude Altar and Rosary Society. As a faithful Catholic, Dee was a member of Christ the King Parish, and had a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother and a reliance on St. Anthony.
Dee was born April 19, 1928 in Toledo, the daughter of Helen Nowakowski and George Urbaniak. Dee was the beloved wife of 58 years to the late Harry M. Szalkowski. Cherishing her memory are daughters Mary Ellen Zielinski (Paul) Martinez, GA, Cheryl Caldwell (Ed) N. Baltimore, OH, grandchildren Bobbi (Scott) McLure, Robin (Trey) Johnson all of GA, Brad McCauley, Maegan Jaquay, Angie D'Amore (Ben) all of OH, ten great-grandchildren, caring nephew Lance Whitacre and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dee was preceded in death by her loving son Robert W. Szalkowski, three sisters, a brother and a great grandson.
The family would like to express their thanks for the love and care shown to Dee by the staff of Bowling Green Care Center. Mom's last days were fun, happy days because of you. You are the best.
A Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, April 5, 2017, Christ the King Church with the Rev. Fr. William Rose celebrating. Visitation in the church 9:30 AM until Mass begins at 11 AM. Graveside service, 2:00 pm. Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ the King Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo, OH 43623; Logsdon-Walla Post 639 CWV, 2857 Airport Hwy, Toledo, 43609; Bowling Green Care Center, 850 West Poe Rd, Bowling Green, OH 43402 or your favorite charity.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Dolores, but happy that she got to spend part of her Christmas day with family before her homegoing to Heaven. May these words of our Lord Jesus bring you all hope and encouragement, especially in this upcoming New Year of 2017: 'Be not afraid. I go before you always. Come, follow Me, and I will give you rest'.
