Bernice R. Langhals, age 95, of Toledo passed away on Wednesday March 29, 2017 at The Toledo Hospital. Bernice was the daughter of John and Frances (Cichurska) Bielicki and was born on November 4, 1921 in Toledo. She was one of the first 13 women hired in 1940 by Champion Spark Plug Co. to aid the war effort, where she was an aviation inspector.  After 32 years, Bernice was the first employee in the country to take retirement under the new UAW “30 and Out” policy. To fill her time after retirement, she worked 4 years for Bob Miller Interiors. Bernice was very proud of her Polish heritage and grew up in the Polish Village on Buckingham St. She and her girlfriends enjoyed dancing at all the dance halls in town, such as the Trianon.  In 1947 she met her future husband Arthur “Butch” Langhals in a beer garden and they were married on October 18, 1947. Bernice was always the life of the party, could really tell a story and never forgot a punchline of the many jokes she told. For many years, she and Butch traveled to Houghton Lake, MI. to snowmobile and to Sarasota, Fl. where, in both places, they made countless friends. At one time Bernice also played Santa Claus at the old Southwyck Mall.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 57 years Arthur “Butch” Langhals; brothers Stash, Frank and Abe and sisters Stella, Helen and Genevieve. She is survived by her loving son Gary (JoAnn) Langhals, her grandchildren, whom she adored, Taylor and Halie Langhals and numerous nieces and nephews;
Family and friends may visit at the W. K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy., on Friday from 3-7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held Saturday April 1, 2017 at 11 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church where visiting will begin at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Dear Gary and family,
I know it's hard to lose a parent/grandparent. May peace be with you all. I'm sorry I didn't make it to your Mom's service, as I just got back from Sarasota.
Sincerely, Barb Cook

Gary and family-
My Mom told me yesterday of Bernice's passing.
I'll bet she was an awesome grandma!
I still make her pickles! But I have never been able to make Cabbage Rolls like she could.
Hugs and kisses to your family.
