Stephanie Virginia (Szmania) Zarecki, 96, formerly of Avondale Avenue, Mettler Street and The Oblates Residence, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2017 at Swanton Genesis Health Care.  Stephanie was born on July 27, 1920 in Toledo to Vincent and Magdalene (Jacek) Szmania.  Stephanie belonged to St. Anthony’s Parish and its Ladies Organization until its closing in 2005.
She then became a parishioner at St. Hyacinth’s Parish.  She graduated from St. Anthony’s and attended Robinson Junior High.  Stephanie was employed at Advanced Glove, Boss Glove and Advanced Television.  In 1945, she married Roman Zarecki and they enjoyed 37 years together.  They had two daughters, Janice and Ellen.  Stephanie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She loved working in her yard, bowling, crocheting and baking Polish goodies.
Her 25 different kinds of Christmas cookies are legendary.  She crocheted hangers which she proudly presented to all the ladies in her immediate family every Christmas.  Stephanie was a Detroit Tigers and Toledo Mud Hens fan and every Saturday night was spent watching Lawrence Welk.  Stephanie lived 19 years at the Oblates Residence where she made many new friends and enjoyed playing bingo and pinochle.  She lived the last two years of her life at Swanton Valley Center after enjoying a year living with her daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Ron.
Stephanie was the last born and last survivor of a large family.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roman Zarecki, brothers John, Frank, Ollie, Walter, Stanley, Stanislaus and Chester; sisters Harriett Gorny and Helen Zielinski; half-brothers Joseph, Anthony, Michael, Robert, Clarence and half-sisters Pauline Siminski, Virginia Czaplinski and Sophia Szmania.
She is survived and will be greatly missed by daughters Janice (Ron) Krygielski and Ellen (Ron) Wodarski; grandchildren Carrie (Jeff) Walter, Tracy (Mark) Schmidlin, Kevin (Erin) Krygielski, Keith (Jessica) Krygielski, Ryan (Anna) Wodarski and Kathy (Chris) Ball; great grandchildren Kaitlyn and Jeffrey Walter, Roman and Joseph Schmidlin, Ty, Natalie, Miles and Cecilia Krygielski, Virginia Wodarski, Trey and Josh Jaquay, Allison and Olivia Ball; and many nieces and nephews.
