Dorothy H. Pozniak 96, a life-long Toledoan, and 10 year resident of Perrysburg Commons, passed away on Monday, January 22 following a brief illness. She was born on March 16, 1921 to Martin and Hedwig Filipiak, the 9th of 9 children, two having died as very young children. She endured the Great Depression, walking with her father to plant and harvest their "relief gardens" at Scott Park. "Dottie" was employed at Champion Spark Plug during WWII, and married army veteran and Distinguished Service Cross recipient, Harry Pozniak in 1946. Harry and Dorothy were blessed with four children, all of whom were raised in Toledo. Following the untimely loss of her husband, Dorothy learned to drive, and began her career for the State of Ohio Board of Liquor Control at age 51, retiring at age 72.
Dorothy was a wonderful Polish wife and mother. She could turn a can of tuna into a gourmet meal, and her placzek was legendary! She was preceded in death by her husband, all of her brothers and sisters, and many dear family and friends, all surely awaiting her with open arms at heavens' gate.
Left to cherish many wonderful memories are her children; Raymond (Caroline), Jackie Bryant, Richard (Mary Lynn), Randy (Jane) and honorary fourth son, John (Paula) Nowicki; 9 grandchildren: Harry (Jana), Tara Gilliam, Holly Webb (Champ), Eric Davis, Sam & Max Bryant, Grace & Daniel Pozniak, and special granddaughter Anna Lynn Pozniak. Great-grandchildren; Champ and Gabe Webb, Sierra, Layla, Eric, Lizzie and Nathan; her dear friend and sister-in-law, Ann Filipiak; Many nieces and nephews and their extended families.
In keeping with Dorothy’s wishes, a Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at St. Hyacinth Church at 10:00 a.m. where family and friends may visit after 9:00 a.m.   Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Our family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to the staff of Perrysburg Commons and Heartland Hospice for their tender support and dignified care of Mom.
In lieu of flowers, please send any memorial donations to The Down Syndrome Association of Greater Toledo, PO Box 298, Sylvania, OH 43560.

I am so sorry about dear sweet Dorothy. I was blessed to know her when I worked at Perrysburg Commons. She was such a kind and loving person. She always looked beautiful. She loved her family and would talk about you with pride. I was truly blessed to meet sweet Anna. I looked forward to her weekly visits with her Grandma because I always got a hug and it meant the world to me. I will always cherish my memories of your Mom and Anna, I loved them. So very sorry to see Aunt Dorothy's picture in the obit pages. But I am also glad she had such a long and wonderfully eventful life. My parents both died at the age of 92, so we all can be glad we had them around for such a grand time. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Love, Aunt Sharon and Scott and Mary Filipiak PS She was always one of my favorites.
