Ollie R. Grabowski, age 90, of Toledo, OH, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Park Pointe Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Morris, IL on February 18, 2018. Ollie was born in Toledo on August 19, 1927, to the late Joseph and Mary (Przystal) Grabowski and was the youngest of eight children.
Ollie married Rose Pacholek on July 24, 1948, in Toledo and had 2 children, Kenneth (DeAnne) of Coal City, IL, and Robert of Guthrie, OK, both surviving. Following Rose’s death in 1974, he married Rae Eakin, but later divorced; she preceded him in death. In 2003, he married Marie Andrews; she also preceded him in death. Ollie is survived by three grandchildren; Jason of Chicago, IL, Kristin (Billy) Straus of Naples, FL, and Sean of Coal City, IL; along with many nieces and nephews.
After a shortened high school career, Ollie enlisted in the US Navy in August of 1945 and was honorably discharged in August of 1946 due to the end of the war. Within a week after his discharge, Ollie submitted his application to A & P Tea Company where he worked for 48 years in the Eight O’Clock Coffee and Produce departments, retiring in 1994. He was among the founding families of St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church and a member of the American Legion. He loved to polka dance, take bus trips, play cards, and travel. He always enjoyed volunteering wherever he was needed, especially at parish dinners and bingo, the Valentine Theater, and loved traveling to Illinois to spend holidays and special occasions with his family.
Ollie was also preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, John, Walter, Raymond, and Julius, and his sisters, Vernell, Mary and Ann. He will be remembered as a hard working, dedicated husband and father, who was a very giving man and loved by all.
The family will greet friends and family from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, February 23rd at W.K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Highway, Toledo. A scripture service will be held at 7:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 24th, at 11:00 am at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church, 4201 Heather Downs Blvd, Toledo with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral services. Burial to follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Toledo. After the burial, a luncheon will take place at Scott Park Banquet Hall, 2541 Nebraska Avenue, Toledo.
The Grabowski family would like to extend their gratitude to all the staff at Park Pointe in Morris and Joliet Hospice for their attentiveness and loving care these past 2 years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ollie’s name to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Ferrari Funeral Services in Coal City, IL is entrusted with local arrangements.

My Uncle Ollie was always in a jovial mood at family gatherings. I especially remember his laugh. My Dad and all his brothers and sisters survived some rough times growing up during the Depression, but they all kept their sense of purpose and loved their families with whole hearts!
