Dick proudly served his country in the United States Army. He worked in shipping and receiving for Sinclair Manufacturing and retired from Honey Baked Hams. Dick coached many years of both baseball and C.Y.O. basketball for St. Hyacinth.  One of his proudest moments, while coaching, was his 1975 Pee Wee team advancing to the Little League World Series in Georgia, which was truly a family affair.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents.  He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 57 years, Diane (Budzyn); sons, Jeff, Mike (Michaela), and Rick (Cindy); grandchildren, Josh (Erica), Mitch (Rachel), Nick (Jessica), Blake, Travis (Maria), Madeline and Veronica (Luke) Bockbrader; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Ginnie Mohler; daughter-in-law, Sally; nieces & nephews, as well as many close friends, which he considered extended family.  He also enjoyed sharing his weekly Monday & Friday visits to Shawn's with family, friends, the great staff, as well as many other patrons who became friends.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Mark Bruss, Dr. Shaili Desai and Dr. Saleem Zafar for the wonderful care and compassion they provided during this journey.

Dear Mrs. Mielcarek and the rest of the Mielcarek family,

My prayers and thoughts are with all of you.
I am so thankful to have known him in my life, and I will always have very good memories of him.
The only words I can come up with to help ease you through this time is...

...And The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to him.
"My Dear Precious Richard, you have suffered so long and hard.
Now it's time for you to come to me and begin your life in Heaven".

And then the Golden Diamond-White Light of his Guardian Angel surrounded him and took Richard to Heaven.

Mr. Mielcarek, you will always live in my heart forever.
I love you.
Always,
Marty Comes

My sincere condolences to the entire family. I have so many good memories our of annual scrimmage battles with Dick and his boys as a coach with OLPH. We'd always load up the car and bring the boys over to the St. Hyacinth area for a great game of baseball. Dick loved the game as you all know and I did too. He'd always end up beating us in those close scrimmages. I think it had something to do with the umpire who was usually one of Dick's friends, lol. One year we got them to travel to OLPH and we returned the favor, taking 'em down in another great scrimmage. Over the years always would run into Dick and just loved to spend a few minutes talking about those days. He was a staunch supporter of his boys when they were Knights and I'd see him at some of the events. His trademark cigar is a memory that sticks with me. Prayers and love to the entire family.

What a great man. He raised 3 fantastic sons and still had time to be the best coach I ever had. I have endless memories of him throwing pitch after pitch at Scott park in batting practice. He inspired us to achieve with tough old school coaching, but you could feel that he loved and cared about every player as an individual. His combination of a firm hand with a loving touch is something you don't see in many coaches. Many of my greatest childhood memories involve this great family. Our hearts go out to all of you. God bless him.

Diane, Jeff, Mike, and Rick,
Please know that I had tremendous admiration and respect for your husband/father. What a great person! Not only did he raise “the best people”, but for most of his adult life, he was an outstanding leader in our St. Hyacinth community. He was someone that I always looked up to and someone that I used as an example. My sincere condolences.

Dear Diane, Jeff, Mike, Rick and family,

Please accept our heartfelt condolences. Your husband and father was a man/coach I’ll never forget. Memories of Saturday morning trips to Westminster gym in the back of the Mustang listening to the sounds of Motown, to coaching baseball at the “pines” he was not only seen as a coach, but a father figure to us all. You could not have asked the Lord for a better husband and father. Even today when there’s the smell of a cigar in the air, I’m looking over my should to see him nearby.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to your entire family during this difficult time.

Our deepest condolences to the family of Richard Mielcarek. I had the pleasure of being coached by Mr. Mielcarek for one year, with his young, light blonde assistant coaches in tow. Coach met my father, 22 years his senior, while playing darts at St. Hyacinth. My dad never drove, so Coach insisted on driving him to places whenever he could. Theirs became a lasting friendship until my father's passing at age 57. Thank you Coach, for all of your kindness. Please say HI to my dad for me when you see him in your rightful resting place.
