Joann Schwind passed to eternal life at ProMedica Ebeid Hospice Residence on September 22, 2021. Born May 20, 1947, Joann graduated from Rogers High School. She met the love of her life James “Jimmy” Schwind (1944 -2006), when she was a young girl while he was working on a neighboring farm. They married on January 7, 1967, and this happy union produced four children. Joann worked for the First National Bank (currently Fifth Third Bank) until she took her most important and appreciated role as being a stay-at-home mom, field trip chaperone, chef, and traffic/schedule cop to four kids born in 5 years! She eventually returned to Fifth Third where she retired in 2010.
Joann traveled extensively throughout the United States to support and enjoy polka music with Jim and the many friends that they met through this passion. Joann also had great enthusiasm for her Green Bay Packers, Nascar, puzzling, and, most importantly, her family. The thing that she enjoyed most in life were her grandkids. Joann and Jim told us often to always stay close to our siblings as they would be the ones that get us through the trials of life. She left an amazing legacy.
If you know of anything of what Joann went through in the last 14 years, you know what a warrior she was. She had some major hurdles and amazingly left them in her rear-view mirror.
Left to cherish her memory are her children; son, James Jr.: daughters; Christine Welsh (Dave), Sandra Rodriguez (Michael) and Jennifer Engler (John); six grandchildren; Nicholas Fox-Schwind, Hannah Engler, Graesyn Engler, Gabriel Pawlak, Gabrielle Welsh, and Dominic Welsh: brothers; Eugene, Roy and Louie; and sister: Marilyn. She is preceded in death by her husband Jim; parents, Aloysius and Helen Gedert; brothers, Gerald, Leonard and Daniel.
Friends may visit on Monday from 3-8:00 p.m. at the W.K. Sujkowski and Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 28, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. where friends may visit after 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. The family suggests donations to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
The family would like to express a special thank you to her sister-in-law, Barb Schwind, who provided Joann with much love and helped us through this very difficult time.
With the utmost love, respect, and admiration we say goodbye. With profound sadness, we reluctantly return Joann to the Lord. We will miss you Joann, Jo, Mom, Mommy, and Busi!
“Love as powerful as your mother’s
for you leaves its own mark.
To have been loved so deeply,
even though the person who loved us is gone,
will give us some protection forever.”
