John M. Melanathy, Sr.

John M. Melanathy, Sr., 81, passed away, surrounded by family, peacefully in the arms of the mother of his children in their family home. He was born on December 30, 1940, to William and Blanche Melanathy in Grass Valley, CA.  John proudly served his county in the Unites States Army.  He dedicated his entire life to the military which included serving 22 years, two tours in Vietnam, and he was a Green Beret.  John was able to travel all around the world during his military career.  After serving in the Army, John worked as a constructional engineer.  He enjoyed fishing and tinkering with boats, bikes, and cars. John recently resided in New Port Richey, FL until moving back to Toledo to be near his family.

 John was preceded death by his parents; daughter, Janet Gnepper; granddaughter, baby Kathy; and brother, William. Surviving are his children, Jessica (Asghar Nhjafian) Emerson and John ‘Johnny’ Melanathy, Jr.; grandchildren, Lily (Dave) Townsend, Ryan McDonagh, Aaron and Noah Emerson; great grandson, Owen; former spouse, Kathleen Melanathy; and extended family and friends.

 Family and friends may visit from 9-10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 28, 2022, at the W.K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy. Interment with Military Honors will be held at 12:00 p.m. at Arborcrest Memorial Park, Ann Arbor, MI.
