Michael "Kupper" Koperski, 47, of Toledo Ohio passed away Saturday, September 2, 2017 in his home surrounded by loved ones. Michael was born on October 15, 1969 to Richard and Mary Ann (Kopinski) Koperski. Michael attended Central Catholic High School and while enrolled at University of Toledo was accepted into the Toledo Police Academy. He did go back to obtain his bachelors later in life to show his children that it was never too late to achieve a goal. Michael served with the Toledo Police Department for the last 24 years and was a FTO prior to being promoted to sergeant in 2012.  Michael's last assignment was running the Background and Recruitment unit until he fell ill.
Diagnosed with Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease, Michael put up a tremendous fight before losing his battle. He did it with strength, courage and grace. Family was his greatest joy and priority in Michael's life and he cherished his time spent with them.  He was a devoted father, husband, brother, son and friend to many. He was quick with a smile and a simple man with a generous heart. He loved his golf and was the National PRCUA champion several times.
Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann and both maternal and paternal grandparents. He is survived by his loving wife Danielle (Clody), sons Michael and Joseph, father Richard Koperski, sister Debbie (Todd) Marciniak, brothers, Rick (Abby) and David. Nephews Patrick and Timothy Marciniak and Jacob and Tony Koperski. Also left to cherish his memory are the family he married into: father and mother-in-law, Jim and Jean Clody, brothers-in-law  Jim (Amy), Greg (Sophie), Christopher (Christine) and Mike (Kelly) Clody; nephews Nicholas, Sean, Patrick, Brennan and Augie Clody and nieces Megan, Jessica, Sophie, Courtney and Karinna Clody.
The family would like to thank the incredible outpouring of support during Michael's illness.  Special thanks to NWO Hospice (Angie RN) for your compassion and dedication.  To the Toledo Police Department who made sure there were daily visits and lots of laughter until his final days, The Mercy System (St. Anne and SVMMC) for your love and support and to Kyle Schaller for her smilekoperski campaign that truly showed how loved Michael was. Thank you to Cleveland clinic (Dr. Shook and Dr. Patel) ,  Dr. Bradley Everly (and office), Dr. Saraiya (and office), Dr. Michael Retholtz, Dr. Douglas Cifuentes and Dr. Stanley Orlop for your kindness and compassion.
Visitation will be held at the W.K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy., on Friday from 1-8:00p.m., with vigil services at 7:00p.m.   Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 beginning with prayer services in the funeral home at 9:15a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church (4201 Heatherdowns Blvd.) at 10:00a.m.  Interment with the Police Final Salute to follow at Resurrection Cemetery (5725 Hill Avenue).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. John Jesuit High School and Academy Scholarship fund.
Michael you were loved by many and will be greatly missed by those fortunate enough to know you. Rest in peace.
